Mr. Edward H. Anthony, when he was elected in 1894, succeeded Jacob M. Thomssen (one of the original village councilmen). Although, at that time, Norwood was not divided into wards, Mr. Anthony was considered to represent South Norwood.
He had been on the staff of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Times-Star and Commercial Tribune newspapers. He covered city hall, police and politics in the latter end of the Nineteenth Century and the early part of the Twentieth Century. Also, in 1894, Mr. Anthony held a position under County Treasurer Leo Schott. At one time, he was the chief clerk in the Cincinnati City Engineer's office. According to records, he appears to have moved from Norwood to Cincinnati sometime before 1900. Mr. Anthony died at the age of 82, in October 1938, at Cincinnati's General Hospital, from complications of a hip fracture, that occurred at the Widows' and Old Men's Home on East McMillan Street. His wife, Carrie, had died at the home in 1933. |
