From the The Cincinnati Daily Times newspaper, Friday, December 6, 1878: NOTE: The name Geo. Hofer is probably a misprint — should it be Geo. Hafer? At that stockholders meeting, L. C. Hopkins was elected president; Edwards Mills, treasurer, and Joseph B. Foraker, secretary. The elected board of directors consisted of L. C. Hopkins, P. P. Lane, J. B. Foraker, Edward Mills and Frank Wiehe. The meeting was at Thomas T. Drake's home. Today, that site is at the Frisch's restaurant on the west side of Montgomery Road, just south of the bridge. The organization was created to follow up on the demand of local women to build a village center. However, because of lack of funds, it was four years later before the center was built. |
